White Sugar

White sugar is a refined sweetener made primarily of sucrose, usually from sugar cane or sugar beets. It provides sweetness and calories but very few vitamins, minerals, or other beneficial nutrients.

Nutritional highlights

White sugar is almost entirely sucrose and provides rapidly absorbed carbohydrate with negligible fiber, protein, fat, vitamins, and minerals.

Caution. High intake can raise blood glucose and contribute to dental caries; people with diabetes should limit and monitor intake.
